The short answer

Published sources put Miami wedding photography roughly between $1,500 and $10,000+, with most couples landing somewhere in the $3,000 to $7,000 band. The national picture from Zola’s Wedding Cost Index, updated February 2026, is an average of $4,400 with a typical range of $3,500 to $5,300, representing about 9% of a total wedding budget.

Miami-Dade and Broward run above the Florida state picture, where most couples spend $1,500 to $4,500. Miami is a major-market city and prices behave like one.

These are published third-party ranges, cited so you can check them. They are not my rates. My current pricing is on the pricing page, and a limited number of 2026 bridal sessions are complimentary.

Why the range is so wide

Because “wedding photographer” describes both someone shooting their fourth wedding on a Sunday in August and a studio delivering two photographers, twelve hours and a bound album for a Saturday in March. Those are different products. The spread is real, not padding.

The costs almost nobody budgets for

This is the part missing from every other pricing guide, and it catches Miami couples out repeatedly. Several of the best photography locations in Miami-Dade charge their own permit fee, paid to the venue, entirely separate from what you pay a photographer.

Figures below are from each venue’s published information, checked July 2026.

They change. Confirm before budgeting.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

$250 weekday · $350 weekend for the standard portrait permit, gardens only, with a $25 non-refundable deposit online and the balance paid on arrival.

Premium early access, 8:00–9:30am and nearly private, is $450. The Main House permit is normally $750, currently discounted to $600, and listed as temporarily unavailable. The permit covers five people total, including your photographer and hair and makeup. Full detail on the Vizcaya guide.

Deering Estate

$180 for the small permit covering up to seven people, 10am to 5pm. Groups of four or more may additionally need a Miami-Dade Office of Film and Entertainment permit at a $125 application fee. Outdoor only, no photography inside the historic houses. See the Deering guide.

What this means in practice

A bridal session at Vizcaya on a Saturday costs $350 before a camera comes out of the bag. If you are comparing two photographers and one has quoted a location that carries a permit, you are not comparing like with like. Ask every photographer whether their quote includes venue or permit fees. Most do not.

What actually moves the number

Hours of coverage

The largest single driver. Basic packages typically run six to eight hours with one photographer. Standard is eight to ten, sometimes with a second shooter.

Premium is ten or more with multiple photographers and an album.

Day of the week, and the month

Saturdays in peak season cost the most. Nationally peak runs May to October; in South Florida the demand pattern inverts, because our high season is December through April when the weather is reliable, and June to September is hurricane season and off-peak.

That inversion is worth money. Several Miami venues drop to off-season rates June through September, and Villa Woodbine prices Fridays and Sundays below Saturdays year-round. A Friday in June is the cheapest date on the calendar and also has the longest daylight of the year, which is the best photography light you can buy. Almost nobody books it.

Second photographer

Adds cost, and is genuinely worth it above roughly 120 guests, or where getting ready and the ceremony are in different locations. At a Cuban wedding with a paseo, a moving parade cannot be covered from one position.

Experience and style

A photographer ten years in with a recognizable body of work costs more than someone building one. Heavily art-directed editorial work also carries more post-production time than documentary coverage, and editing hours are real hours.

Deliverables

Digital files only sits below a package with a designed album and prints. Ask what you actually receive, and ask about print rights.

Travel

Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach are usually standard coverage for a South Florida photographer. The Keys, Naples or out of state are not.

How to compare quotes properly

Photographers price differently enough that headline numbers are close to meaningless. Put every quote on the same eight lines and the comparison becomes obvious.

Ask all of these

  • 1. How many hours, and what happens if the day runs over?
  • 2. One photographer or two?
  • 3. How many edited images, and when are they delivered?
  • 4. Are venue or permit fees included, or paid separately by me?
  • 5. Is an engagement or bridal session included, or an add-on?
  • 6. Do I get full-resolution files and print rights?

7. Is travel included for my venue?

8. What is the deposit, the payment schedule and the cancellation policy?

Question four is the one that changes the ranking most often, and the one almost nobody asks.

Where you can save without regretting it

Shorten coverage rather than downgrading the photographer. Eight hours with someone whose work you love beats twelve with someone whose work you tolerate. Move to a Friday or Sunday. Book off-season. Drop the album and order it later, when it is not competing with the catering bill.

Where saving costs you

Cutting the second photographer at a large wedding, cutting hours so tightly that the reception ends before coverage does, and choosing on price alone without watching a full gallery from start to finish rather than a highlights reel.

Questions couples ask

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Miami?

Published ranges put it roughly between $1,500 and $10,000+, with most couples in the $3,000 to $7,000 band. The Zola national average is $4,400 as of February 2026. Miami-Dade and Broward run above the Florida state average.

Is $5,000 a lot for a wedding photographer?

No. It sits within the normal range for an experienced photographer, particularly where the package includes full-day coverage, a second shooter, an engagement or bridal session and an album.

What percentage of the budget should photography be?

Around 9% is the common benchmark. Zola reports that roughly 55% of couples say photography is the category they are most willing to overspend on.

Do I pay extra for the location?

Frequently yes, and it is usually not in the photographer’s quote. Vizcaya charges $250 to $450 for a portrait permit and Deering charges $180 plus a possible $125 county permit. Always ask who pays.

When is the cheapest time to get married in Miami?

June through September, on a Friday or Sunday. It is hurricane season, which is why it is cheaper, and it also has the longest daylight of the year.

Should I tip my photographer?

Not required. Around $100 for the lead and $50 to $75 for a second shooter is a common gesture. A vendor meal is standard courtesy for anyone working through the reception.

Can I negotiate?

Sometimes. Most established photographers hold their pricing, but many will restructure a package: fewer hours, no album, a different date. Ask about the structure rather than the discount.
